How to Refer

Consenting to Services

All Legal Guardians/Parents must consent to services for children under 12yrs old. Consent and client rights must be reviewed with the legal guardian and the counsellor directly, via a scheduled appointment in order for this office to follow the regulations for meeting informed consent practices. Informed consent is obtained during the scheduled Intake appointment. The rate for service applies to the Intake appointment. Only the adults need to attend the Intake appointment for children under 12yrs old. Children over 12yrs old or teens can consent to their own services but may have their parent present for the Intake appointment.

Joint/Shared Custody

If parents have shared/joint custody both parents must consent to services. Both guardians must attend an Intake appointment to sign off and have consent/client rights reviewed with them before their child can receive treatment. The guardians that have joint/shared custody may attend a joint intake appointment together or their own separate intake appointments. Each parent is responsible for paying for their own intake appointment. Only the adults attend the Intake appointment. If both parents do not consent to services we cannot provide therapy to the child. We can offer parent sessions as another option.

What you can expect

If you have contacted our office by phone/email we will attempt to contact you within 48hrs. If you do not hear from us within that time frame please reach out to us again as issues can arise such as; technical issues, or voice mail messages that may have been unclear or difficult to decipher.

Once consent/legal guardianship is clarified, the counsellor will book the Intake appointment. At the Intake appointment our Consent For Services form will be reviewed with the Legal guardians/signing authorities of the child or child over the age of 12yrs. Additional information will be gathered such as the reason for referral and background information on the clients' history. If all parties are in agreement to services the first counselling session will be scheduled.

When a file is closed, either due to lack of contact, by client consent or for any other reason you must call if you wish to have your file reactivated. If there has been a lengthy period of time since last contact/service, or if client circumstances have significantly changed an Intake renewal appointment may need to occur to obtain up to date information on the clients' current needs and functioning and to set appropriate treatment goals. Any scheduled appointments whether it be by phone, online or in person will be billed at the office's current fee for service rates at the time of reactivation.

Sessions are scheduled according to client need and counsellor availability.
